What budget airlines travel to Medan from Singapore?

Written by admin on March 19th, 2009

I need to know the budget flights which goes to Medan, Indonesia from Singapore. And would like it if it’s possible to recommend me a hotel not too expensive and not too cheap, comfortable for at least 4 days with custom check-out time. Note, we are not backpackers. Thanks!

There is no budget airline to Medan. If you want the cheapest mode to get there, go by coach to Penang and and take the ferry service to Medan. There are many average hotels in Medan and are not expensive, about S$ 50 to S$ 60 per night. Word of advice, do not tell
the taxi that you are looking for a hotel, because they would make demand from the hotel for a comission and your hotel charges will be much higher. I just can’t recall the names of several hotels which are cheap and good. Try to look through the hotel list from the Yahoo’s travel page and you can get the address and other details.

What is the best budget-travel hotel in Kuala Lumpur?

I am not necessarily looking for a hostel, I would like something with private rooms but affordable and conveniently located; I don't need pool, gym and all those luxories, just something clean and convenient. Thanks

The Tai Itchi hotel in Bukit Bintang is pretty central to everything and only costs Rm80 per night

Any one knows of a safe budget air travel from Saigon to Cambodia?

Written by admin on March 15th, 2009

All the other budget air travel that I know - like pacific air, air aisa, jetstar - do not ply the Saigon-Phnom Penh route. But I think there should be one somewhere. I hope somebody can help me with this info, and how much are return flights. Thanks.

I believe your only choices are Vietnam Airlines and Siem Reap Airlines, and neither of them are cheap, probably at least $250US or so round trip. I live in Thailand and it's the same situation here, Bangkok Airways and Siem Reap Airlines are the only airlines that fly into Phnom Penh and Siem Reap and they're both very expensive, too. And if you think that's expensive, try pricing flights from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap. Air Asia is planning a Vietnamese subsidiary, but whether that helps with prices into Cambodia remains to be seen, I doubt it. Hopefully some airline will open up some cheaper fares on these routes, but for now, you don't have much choice. Good luck.

How much can I expect to spend per day on budget travel in Taiwan?

I think you can get a pretty decent stay with US$60-80 per day including accomodation, transportation, some petty cash for food/drinks. Some places can be over-priced, but if you look for reasonable, average areas and mingle with locals, you can get good deal enjoy cheap (and amazingly good) food island wide!

Where are the best places to enjoy the Rocky Mountains (US) on a limited travel budget?

Written by admin on March 7th, 2009

A friend and I are hoping to see what we can of the Rocky Mountains and other nature-esque point of interest this summer, and need to keep travel costs down as much as possible. Does anyone have any ideas as to camping locations, great views with low costs or free access, and relatively inexpensive food? We'll be coming in from south-central Texas, if that makes any differences. Thanks in advance!

You will be entering Colorado on Raton Pass between Raton, New Mexico and Trinidad, CO.. What a gorgeous view just as you get past the crest of the pass. If you want to see the Rockies in the southern part of the state, turn west at the sign to Walsenburg and follow signs to La Vwta pass, then to the town of la Veta. There is a state park just after La Veta where you can camp…gorgeous place. If you would like to go to Rocky Mtn, National Park, northeast of Denver, it is fantastic. Youcan camp there too. Or you can go on line and book lodging at the YMCA of the Rockies…just 1 mile from the entrance to the park…great place with lodging in all price ranges. They fill up fast so you woud need to make reservations very. When you go to the park, go to the visitors center and get info on al kinds of trails and ikes. Be sure to drive up to top of Trail Ridge Road…it is fantastic. On your way to Denver you will go through Colorado Springs…you could go see Pikes Peak…actually you can't miss it…it twers over the city, go up to the town or Woodland Park, and go see the garden of the Gods with its amazing rock formations…right in the middle of Colorado Springs. i lived in Springs for years, and camped all over Co. I highly recommend the YMCA of the Rockies.

There is a very nice guesthouse named Guntary in West Jakarta.
Very clean, comfy and homy, and crazily cheap!
You've got bed with full bedding, TV, AC, private bathroom, hot water, and even breakfast for only ca. $9!
The staffs are very nice and polite too.

Has anyone tried being a courier to foreign countries as a means of budget travel?

Written by admin on March 1st, 2009

You can accompany documents or cargo and have most of your airfare covered in exchange with various courier companies. Curious to hear about people's experiences.

I was - and this was before 9/11 - for documents. The company covered my airfare totally and beyond a few extra steps at customs - everything worked out okay. I dropped off the documents, spent some time in Europe and came home after picking up the contract that I'd taken to be signed and sealed.

You should really consider the city Brugge. Its in Belguim, about an hour from Brussels. Very nice there. I would also highly reccomend Barcelona in Spain!
